The match 10 of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) between Trinbago Knight Riders and Saint Lucia Kings at Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium, Gros Islet, St Lucia was marred by the controversial dismissal of Tim David. The Australia batter was dismissed for 10 (8) at a crucial juncture of the game as Saint Lucia required 71 runs to win from 33 balls.
In the 15th over of the innings, David tried to swing hard at a full delivery by Mohammad Amir. However, the bowler felt he had heard something and captain Nicholas Pooran immediately went up for review. The replays showed that there was a clear gap between bat and ball, but much to everyone’s surprise, the Snicko showed a spike.
As a result, David had to walk back to the pavilion, leaving his team in disarray, chasing a target of 184. Following his dismissal, the remaining batters succumbed under pressure as St Lucia finished their innings on 165/6 in 20 overs, handing Trinbago Knight Riders an 18-run victory.
Johnson Charles 47 (37) was the top scorer for St Lucia, while Andre Russell (2/38) and Usman Tariq (2/20) were the pick of the bowlers. Earlier, Kieron Pollard wreaked havoc on St Lucia with his thunderous innings of 65 (29) studded with four fours and six sixes.
Apart from him, Colin Munro (43 off 30) and Nicholas Pooran (34 off 30) also made valuable contributions. Keon Gaston (2/38) emerged as the pick of the bowlers for St Lucia. Pollard was deservedly adjudged Player of the Match in his team’s win.
Meanwhile, following their win, Knight Riders climbed to third spot on the points table with four points from three matches, while St Lucia are ranked fifth with three points in as many matches.
