The Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) is the latest state association to announce the launch of its own T20 league, scheduled for the 2025-26 season. This move aligns with a growing trend among state associations seeking to provide platforms for local talent and enhance cricket development within their regions.
According to Anil Patel, Secretary of the Gujarat Cricket Association, the decision has been finalized. However, the association is still in the process of determining a suitable window for the tournament. The number of teams and other crucial details are also yet to be confirmed.
These domestic T20 leagues have become increasingly important for Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises, serving as key scouting grounds for identifying emerging talent. Leagues in Delhi, Mumbai, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Andhra, and Saurashtra have already proven successful in providing local cricketers with opportunities to shine and potentially advance their careers. Many of these leagues take place in June and July, following the conclusion of the IPL season in May.
