Former England pace bowler Stuart Broad has lauded Indian seamer Akash Deep for his impactful performance in the second Test against England. Broad highlighted Deep's effectiveness on a relatively docile Edgbaston pitch, attributing it to his strategic approach.
Akash Deep celebrates taking a crucial wicket.
Broad explained, "He brings the stumps into play, nips the ball, even with the second new ball with Harry Brook (in the first innings), through the gate and off stump out of the ground." He emphasized Deep's ability to consistently threaten the batsmen's wickets.
Broad advised that India should continue to utilize Deep strategically, especially during the initial stages of an innings when the ball retains its hardness and newness. He acknowledged that resting Deep before the next new ball is a viable option.
Broad also emphasized how Deep's clever utilization of the crease enabled him to dismiss Joe Root in the second innings.
"Using the crease. It's crucial. It's a skill and an art that every Test match bowler should have," Broad stated.

He further elaborated on the importance of varying the release point for bowlers. "Every bowler should have it really. I mean, how I used to sort of view it was a batter will always line up the same to you."
Broad added, "If you can change your release position by a couple of inches at a time, they're not necessarily turning their shoulders or their feet position. So that little movement can be that half-bat-width distance that can catch the edge or make them miss it and hit the stump."
Broad recommended that bowlers should practice altering their angles during net sessions and even in league cricket matches. This adjustment can provide a different angle of attack, particularly when there is limited swing in the air.
