Kavya Maran, the Face of SRH, Addresses Her Viral Internet Meme Status
Kavya Maran, CEO and co-owner of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), has spoken out about her reactions during IPL matches that have propelled her to internet meme fame. In a recent interview, she revealed that her passionate responses are a direct result of her personal investment in the team's performance, amplified by the ever-present cameras of broadcasting networks.
As the daughter of Sun Group chairman Kalanithi Maran, Kavya Maran first captured public attention in 2023 during the IPL auction. Her strategic leadership of SRH has since made her a fixture at matches, where her on-field reactions have become a constant source of social media buzz.
"Those are my raw emotions that you're seeing," Maran explained, "because my job has brought me to the point that I have to put myself out there... The cameraman manages to find me. So, I understand how it becomes memes."
She further emphasized her deep connection to the team, stating, "When it comes to Sunrisers, I genuinely wear my heart on my sleeve. I think when you put your heart and soul into something, you naturally tend to get very personally attached to its successes and failures."
Under Maran's guidance, SRH's IPL performance has been a rollercoaster.
The team finished last in 2023, despite high expectations, but rebounded impressively in 2024, finishing second and reaching the final.
The 2025 season saw a mid-table result for SRH, securing six wins out of fourteen matches.
Despite the mixed results, SRH boasts one IPL championship title from 2016.
Beyond the IPL, Maran also oversees the Sunrisers Eastern Cape franchise in South Africa's SA20 competition. This team has enjoyed more consistent success, winning the first two seasons in 2023 and 2024.
